One morning not long ago there was a garage sale in the Buddhist Centre in Pitt Street, just off Lygon Street. As well as buying a great vintage blouse there, I also had the chance to observe this fascinating little street. On the corner there is an old fashioned hardware store, then a few industrial buildings of different eras.
One of the buildings houses the Buddhist Centre, and next
door is a burlesque dance studio. I found the lettering on this building
particularly interesting. I wonder what happened to the clothing company.
Further along, Irene Lingerie has a distinctly mid twentieth century air to the shape and form of the building and signage, however the overlay of street art point to a later function. Apparently it is an artists’ hub and studio space, no longer a lingerie factory.
Despite being a quiet no through road, Pitt Street Brunswick is full of interesting buildings and, no doubt, history.
