Bricks with vanishing signage

With these advertisements on either side of the doorway, the corner shop in Pearson Street must have been a popular destination in times long gone.
On the other side of the street was a butcher shop, and the proud signage has survived. I think we all still yearn for the corner shop within strolling distance.

As well as corner shops, there used to be many small industries and manufacturers, and some of their signs were painted straight onto the brick walls. In Albion Street, I found this ghostly sign, with the paint slowly disappearing, but the words still slightly visible.  I am not sure what the business was.

And just down Brunswick Road, there is the beautiful little factory that will soon be redeveloped into  a small block of apartments. It used to be a clothing manufacturer, and as the sign says, you could buy direct "from factory to you". I can only imagine the crowds that would come to buy the clothing manufactured there. That was the real "factory shopping", not the tour busses of shoppers that go to outlets every Saturday morning nowadays, buying cheap items at even cheaper prices than in the shops. But none of those clothes are made in the deserted Brunswick factories anymore.
