Methven Park

This is a small park just off Lygon Street, with magnificent old elm trees and a path that winds through it from one corner to the other, causing the beholder to wonder: where did it used to lead to? Surely not just from one street to the next? The destination and the story have disappeared.

Our friend George told me that the house at the end of Methven Street used to be a synagogue. Its roof line still has a “temple” look to it.  To the north of the park is a factory complex which, as I learned recently from people who live in an adjacent street, will not be there much longer.  So I hope my photos will be of interest.
The saw tooth roof.

There are some beautiful colours and textures created by the aging and weathering corrugated iron. Not to mention the tags and lines that have been added over time, by whom and to what end?

Who are the running men?
Almost like rock art from another civilisation.

  1. I love this park - stumbled on it by accident one day. Fascinating detail about the synagogue...must look that up.
