What a surprise to come across this Italianate mansion on top of the rise in Cohuna Street West Brunswick! And still with an expansive block around it. I had to do some research.
It was built in 1888 by John Buncle who was from Scotland but made his fortune in Melbourne with ironworks and designing agricultural machinery and tools. Unfortunately he died soon after completing this beautiful house and his family did not have many years to enjoy it; they sold it and it was purchased by the Salvation Army in 1897 and became a refuge for women and children. The name was changed to "the Harbour" and it remained as such for almost a century, till 1994.
I wonder what the view is like from the tower. Probably as amazing as the view must be from the top of the Grand View Hotel in West Brunswick. I must visit that hotel again soon! I wish the current owners of Milano all the best.
